Our Products

Please note that while the below photos are representative of our products, each of our products is handcrafted and has unique variations in color, design details, and wood grain/pattern.

The Santiam River Casket

The Santiam River model was inspired by log cabins, which we find quite cozy and comforting even when rustic, and we thought this design could be a fitting final resting place. The Santiam casket is made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified Douglas Fir. We work with Sustainable Northwest Wood to ensure we are using local wood that is responsibly sourced from the PNW.

We assemble the Santiam using wood dominoes (similar to dowels but wider and more precise) and natural hide glue. The base non-metal design includes a fitted lid and simple hemp rope closures to align/attach the lid. Note that the lid cannot be propped open but can easily be fully removed and set aside. Metal hinges and latches are an option to replace the braces and rope closures. We can finish the casket with a 100% bio-based natural oil finish (made of Pure Linseed Oil, Tung Oil, Pine Rosin, Beeswax, Pure Citrus Solvent) from Heritage Natural Finishes.

The Santiam comes with a muslin mattress and pillow filled with wood shavings; we use a medium weight fabric, so some dust may be released through the weave if not handled gently.
